Can one really put a price on the thrill of raising racehorses? Seeing a horse born on your own farm run in the Kentucky Derby or Breeders’ Cup? Actually, one can, and that price is $100 million.

Located in northern Westchester County, just an hour from New York City, 740-acre Stonewall Farm is the largest parcel of land in the county, which may account for its whopping $628,000 of annual taxes (though $415,000 with agricultural exemptions). Hope Mazzola and Nikki McMann at William Raveis Real Estate hold the listing.

The farm is currently owned by Barry K. Schwartz, co-founder of the Calvin Klein global fashion empire, and his wife Sheryl. A friend of Klein’s since childhood, Schwartz lent him $10,000 in 1968 to create samples for his first fashion line. After that, Schwartz was the CEO of the company, while Klein remained the creative visionary.

The Schwartzes replaced the original farmhouse on the property with a 24,000 square foot mansion in 2004. The house overlooks the sprawling grounds, which includes a spring-fed pond, horse paddocks, and formal French and Japanese gardens designed by landscape architect Edmund D. Hollander.

Highlights of the eight-bedroom, eight-and-a-half-bath house include extra-wide planked pine floors, a two-story library with spiral staircase, a second-floor sitting room with double-height ceiling, and a sunroom. The lower level includes a 2,200 bottle wine cellar, tasting room and game room with bar. The second story boast seven bedrooms, all en suite and all with a different style of design. The top level, with the master suite, is Asian-inspired, with an indoor Zen garden.

The gorgeous grounds include lavender and boxwood hedges as well as a wisteria-clad pergola. There’s also a 4,000 square foot pool house with 60-foot-long indoor pool, as well as a gym, sauna, changing rooms and kitchen. Beyond that are the Japanese gardens, the rose garden, the koi pond, and a butterfly garden.

As for the horses, there’s a turf racetrack, miles of trails, a 40-stall yearling barn and two 24-stall broodmare barns, plus fenced paddocks and pastures. There’s also a working cattle ranch, hay fields, and an old stone spring house that supplies hundreds of gallons of water a day. A guest house, eight staff residences, and a caretaker’s cottage complete this amazing property.

Breaking into the racehorse breeding business is not for the financially feint of heart, but Stonewall Farms offers an equine-oriented billionaire the opportunity to do it up in high style and great luxury.
